• 2 Textile Fibres and Yarns - Progression

The 2nd theme offers the student ability to

    - identify textile fibres (microscope, solvent)

    - characterise  fibres and yarns on the basis of the production methods.

    - identify industrial spinning methods

    - identify new fibre developments

    - know the general ways to produce recycled fibres, their properties and end use.

    - select the correct fibres and yarns by noting  their environmental impact.

The theme is divided into 5 different learning units:

    2.1 Manufacturing technologies of man-made fibres  - 2 ECTS

The course aims to give the student basic knowledge of special, innovative fibres for clothing and interior textiles and ability to identify their end use. The student is after completing the course able to characterise the man-made fibres on the basis of the production methods of  their diverse properties and reactions towards external influences. - Tested learning material available (parts 1,2 and 3)

    2.2 New fibre developments - 1 ECTS

The course aims to give the student basic knowledge of new bio-based polymers as bioplastics and other new fibre developments including optimisation of their properties.-  - Recommended contents of the learning material available

    2.3 Yarn production methods - 1 ECTS

The course aims to give the student basic knowledge of different kinds of industrial spinning methods and abilities to describe the processes and the operation principle of yarn producing machines. The student is after completing the course able to indicate yarn properties and application options according to the applied production method and also able to select a production method based on necessary fibre and yarn properties by noting its environmental impact. - Recommended contents of the learning material available

2.4 Quality assessment and testing methods of textile fibres and yarns - 1 ECTS

The course aims to give the student knowledge of the requirements of fibre and yarn tests. The student is after completing the course able to identify textile fibres in various textile materials by means of analysis (microscope, solvent) and to perform textile fibre analysis in the laboratory  to know the aspects of evaluating the quality of fibres and yarns due to their end use. After completing the course the student is also able to give advices for product development regarding to yarn composition, count and other properties.  - Recommended contents of the learning material available

2.5 Different aspects of sustainability and eco-friendliness of textile fibres - 1 ECTS

The course aims to give the student knowledge of the general possibilities to recycle fibres, knowledge of the properties and possibilities of the end use of recycled fibres in different application depending on their quality. After completing the course the student is able to select independently the correct fibres and yarns for a certain application by noting their environmental impact.  - Recommended contents of the learning material available
