• 3. Textile Structures and Processing - Basics

The 3rd theme offers the student introduction to

    - the basic structures and trade names of woven, knitted and nonwoven fabrics.
    - the production methods of woven, knitted and nonwoven fabrics.
    - proper fabrics for specific function or context of use
    - the basic textile pre-treatment and finishing techniques and processes.
    - the proper ISO/ EN/ ASTM/ AATCC tests to assess the quality or functionality.

The theme is divided into 6 different learning units:

3.1 Basics of woven fabrics- 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student basic knowledge about the basic woven structures, the fabric trade names and context of use - Tested learning material available

3.2 Basics of knitted fabrics - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student abilities to identify and understand the knitted structures and know the trade names of knits and context of use. - Recommended contents of the learning material available

    3.3 Basics of nonwovens - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student abilities to identify and understand different processes for nonwoven production as well as how fibre properties and production methods affect the properties and use of a nonwoven fabric. After completing the course, the student is able to recognise different nonwoven structures - Recommended contents of the learning material available

3.4 Textile printing and dyeing and pre-treatments - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student abilities to identify and understand the basic textile pre-treatment processes, dyeing and printing methods and knowledge of their technical and chemical demands.  After completing the course, the student is able to identify appropriate materials and techniques for resource-efficient dyeing, printing and finishing. - Recommended contents of the learning material available

3.5 Introduction to functional finishing of textiles  - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student abilities to identify the thermal and mechanical finishing processes and the different physical and fastnes testing processes.  After completing the course, the student is able to select the properties of a fabric after mechanical and/or thermal finishing. - Recommended contents of the learning material available

3.6 Introduction to quality control of common textile materials - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student abilities to select the appropriate ISO/ EN/ ASTM/ AAATC tests to assess the quality or functionality of various types of fibres, yarns and fabrics.- Recommended contents of the learning material available
