6. Circular Economy in Textile and Clothing - Progression
The 6th theme offers the student abilities to
- use a systematic approach to decision-making in the textile and clothing industry.- stimulate textile industry waste minimisation and treatment.- identify different types of textile recycling technologies, their current challenges and limitations.- create networks and extend the range of circular business models to maximise the positive outcomes.- know social regulation mechanisms related to environmental impact assessment
The theme is divided into 6 different learning units:6.1 Systems thinking in the textile and clothing sector - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student understanding of the problem-solving approach that views ‘problems’ as part of a wider, dynamic system, and how things influence one another as part of a whole in the process. - Recommended contents of the learning material available
6.2 Principles of textile waste management - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student knowledge of the textile industry wastes - (post production & post consumer), minimisation and treatment. The student is after able to understand how to reuse and recycle textile wastes, textile wastes as raw materials.- Recommended contents of the learning material available
6.3 Textile recycling opportunities - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student an overview of the state of the art regarding different types of textile recycling technologies along with their current challenges and limitations. - Recommended contents of the learning material available
6.4 Circular business models in textile and clothing industry - 1 ECTS
The course aims to give the student abilities to explain the meaning and necessity of the circular economy and to describe different material cycles. The student is after able to name circular economy strategies and to create connections with this field, knowledge of the main business models of the circular economy and abilities to apply them in the field of textiles and clothing. - Tested learning material available
6.5 Costing and pricing strategies for sustainable business models in the textile and clothing sector 1 ECTS - Recommended contents of the learning material available
6.6 Tools for assessing sustainability of product and value chain - 1 ECTSThe course aims to give the student knowledge of the principles of mitigating and preventing environmental damage and regulatory mechanisms related to environmental impact assessment, environmental permits, waste management, circular economy strategies etc, taking into account legal, ethical, organisational and technological aspects. The student has after a practical knowledge of different programs of sustainability assessment - HIGG, LCA, BAWARE - Guiding of introducing the Higg tool to students is available.
